Most Asked Health Questions of 2017

As we enter 2018, we look back on all the weird health questions we might have had throughout the year. According to Google, the most search medical maladies were hiccups, snoring, kidney stones, and lupus. If you’ve yet to get the questions to your answers, then I’ll provide some answer.

Hiccups

This may not be a shocker, but one of the most searched questions revolved around developing hiccups. Hiccups, which are bursts of breathing in, are caused by a disturbance to the nerve pathways from the brain to the muscles. There are many different types of cures for hiccups, such as getting scared or standing upside down, but the easiest is simply holding your breath.

Snoring

Another question that was asked numerous times in Google searches is something I’m sure you thought of a few times – how to stop snoring. Snoring occurs when the flow of air from the mouth or nose to your lungs makes the tissues of the airway vibrate. Things like changing your sleep position and losing weight can help. Something that a lot of people try is opening their nasal passages by taking a hot shower before going to bed or even using a Neti pot.

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are a pain that I can personally attest to. They were also one of the most searched health questions this year. These stones are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside your kidneys. These stones usually pass out of our urinary system and can be quite painful. Without surgery, your best bet would be passing stones through your restroom visits. Drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar; the liquids should be able to help move the stone smoothly.

Lupus

Lupus broke the top 10 mark for the 2017 year. The autoimmune disease can damage any part of the body when the immune system attacks its own tissues. With no cure, current treatments try to focus on better living and minimalizing flares ups. Immunosuppressive medications can be prescribed to those with the disease, but there are side effects.
