With hundreds of different styles, dancing has been a form of expression since the dawn of time. To celebrate great times, to communicate our feelings, or to just have fun there are so many reasons to dance. The benefits of dancing extend far beyond being a fun activity; it also helps keep you in shape. With benefits like these, why wouldn’t you want to dance, but that’s not where it ends. So, today I’m going to go over some of the top reasons you should dance.

Variety

With so many types of dance, it might be hard for you to choose, which isn’t a bad thing. Each different type of dancing style is unique in its own way. From jazz to hip-hop, tap dancing, or salsa, each different dance style evokes a different energy and emotion. With the hundreds of different styles with all the different songs in the world, you will begin to figure out what style to use, or even just freestyle it. Once you’re good enough, you will be able to hit the dance floor with confidence. (For a list of the different dancing styles, click here.)

Health Benefits

Dancing can be a great way to get active, and the benefits for your health are spectacular. With its constant moving, dancing can improve the condition of your heart and lungs. There is also improved muscle tone, strength, coordination, and endurance. Dancing is also a great type of aerobic fitness while increasing agility and flexibility. Besides your physical health, dancing also makes you more confident, through the willingness to dance in the open without worrying about any judgments. In addition to improving your physical health, dancing also improves your social health. Dancing is also a great way to meet new friends through social groups, clubs, or parties.

Dancing with significant others

Dancing has been known to help keep people grounded. When you’re out there on the floor, it’s just you. You’re expressing yourself and emotions otherwise hidden. Ultimately, my favorite part of dancing is the ability to do it with friends. No matter the setting, the feeling of having a good time with those around you is special; it’s definitely a bonding experience. Even being able to share a dance with someone you love forges a deeper and stronger bond.
