Does the Cold Weather Actually Make You Sick?

When the temperatures begin to drop, it is common for people to believe the cold weather makes them sick. Could the drop in temperature really cause you to “catch a cold?” Well, the short answer is no. Rather, the common cold actually comes from the rhinovirus. The rhinovirus is the most common viral infectious agent in humans and is the predominant cause of the common cold. The key component of the rhinovirus is its need for a low-temperature environment of around 33 degrees Celsius. So, I guess you can say the common cold is more susceptible in the cold.

Over the Counter Cures

Although there is no real cure for the common cold, there are ways to recuperate faster. Whether its the stuffiness, sore throat, or the “I’m dying” feeling, you’re going to suffer a little less if you act fast; if you act fast, you might be able to save some of the torment. Doctors will only prescribe antibiotics, but there are plenty of over the counter drugs that can help. For the fever/pain, it is important to take an acetaminophen. With an acetaminophen, you will be able to at least fight some of the body aches you might have from catching a cold. For your sore throat, it is best to take throat lozenges and drinking hot teas. The soothing effects of these remedies will help ease your throat.

How to find relief

With any discharge or uncomfortable stuffy nose feeling, you can always you a brand like Mucinex to clear up that thick discharge. For the stuffy nose, nasal drops or sprays can get you feeling better in seconds. You can always use a vapor rub as well, which you rub on and instantly gives a relief to your nose. Lastly, eat some chicken noodle soup. The soup is able to relieve some of the inflammation in your body while the hot soup fights to warm you up. Together, with a well nights rest and some time to recover, you will be back to your old self in no time.
