Update in my knowledge from before and after working for an Insurance Brokerage

Before and after working for a Health Insurance Brokerage

I have been in the United States for over 2 years now. My knowledge about things has increased tremendously over the past couple of years. Not knowing anything about health insurance, living here in the United States taught me a lot about insurance and its importance comparatively quickly.

I had absolutely no clue about where to find health insurance. or what is open enrollment. Rather, why do you even need to spend a million dollars on insurance you think you are barely going to use.

I guess it took me a year to figure out everything. When I learned about Obamacare life was suddenly easier for a broke and struggling college student. I think not knowing we had a cheaper option was nerve-racking financially. I am glad we have options where the government helps people with low income to cope up with the prices in their day-to-day living.

Coming from a country where things are comparatively cheaper, health insurance is not a big deal. Even the medical services are not as expensive as in the United States. Hence, people can afford occasional medical expenses on their earnings and it would not impact their lives much.

Learning more

I had to begin learning everything from the beginning. How to buy health insurance and how to look at the plans and my personal necessities. The best cost for the maximum coverage and places where my insurance is accepted. Also, being aware of all the carriers available and matching them up with my necessities was a challenging job. If I did not have guidance from agents working with me at Empower Brokerage, it would have been a tedious job trying to figure everything by myself.

Working with Empower Brokerage made me aware of the insurance industry out here in the United States. Along with many other things, it made me familiar with some of the differences between common terms like Medicaid and Medicare. Medicare is a health coverage provided to you if your age is 65 or more. On the other hand, Medicaid is a health coverage provided to you if your age is under 65. Also, if you are enrolled in a Medicare plan, they have several plans to subsidize your prescribed drugs known as Prescription Drug Plan (PDP).
