How Bad Is Fast Food for You?

In America, it’s common to pick up food while on the go, especially with our fast-paced, busy lifestyle. And as we all know, too much fast food is bad for you, but why? Why is something that tastes so good so bad for your health? Fear not, for there are ways to get your food quickly and not add to your waistline.

Average American Fast Food Eater

According to a study done in 2016, 31% of Americans admitted to eating fast food one to three times per week. The study also showed that around 30% of Americans eat fast food less than once a week. This means that most people experiencing issues commonly associated with fast food, are eating it more frequently. The average American eats about 4.2 commercially prepared meals per week. Most of those are in the workforce.

Unhealthy Attributes

Yes, fast food is full of unhealthy calories; this is one of the most common reasons that no dietitians will ever recommend eating it. Your caloric intake – if too high – can cause obesity. Furthermore, calories are also not the best way to get nutrients for yourself; no matter how much you eat you won’t get filled. Fats commonly found in fast food are made up of saturated fatty acids. These fats also raise blood cholesterol levels increasing chances of cardiovascular disease. Also, the fats may negatively impact brain function and memory. Had enough? Fast food can also cause bloating and breakouts of the skin. It’s hard to feel confident in your appearance when you have pimples on your face!

Healthy Fast Food Options

Knowing all the negative impacts, you will want to avoid fast food. However, nowadays people need an easy and quick means of obtaining their meals. Is there any place that you can eat that’s good for you? There are certain options available out there that are better than the rest in terms of fast food. One of those options happens to be Arby’s farmhouse salads. From Burger King (yes, I said that), you can order a burger, which only has 230 calories in it. Chick-Fil-A’s grilled chicken sandwich only has 320 calories and can be paired with most of their sides for a healthier option, not including the fries. Chipotle offers you a full meal packed with protein and calories enough for a full meal.

Many restaurants also do online ordering and curbside delivery. Panera, for instance, allows customers to order online or from their app; with a Panera account, you can even win rewards! So not only do you get healthy food quickly, but you also get rewarded for it!
