Aetna is one of the largest health insurance companies in the nation. They offer a broad product portfolio, including senior products like Medicare, group insurance for both small and large companies, ancillary products, international products, as well as under 65 health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. In regards to the latter, Aetna provides insurance both on and off exchange. Though having had some financial losses through the Affordable Care Act, Aetna still offers plans in a few states. With so many changes on the horizon, it is not certain in which states Aetna will continue to operate. With that said, it does appear as though they will still be available for the 2017-2018 open enrollment.
Depending on which state you’re shopping for insurance, Aetna is a great option. They offer some decent rates. Additionally, they have some of the better plan designs available on the market. Since it seems they will participate in the coming enrollment period, it’s a matter of finding out the extent of their participation. Currently, there’s more carriers that have left the market since Obamacare passed than those have remained. In the coming months, we’ll see which carriers leave the market, limit their participation, or expand into new markets. As for Aetna, their direction is unknown. Regardless, they are a great company and will continue to provide excellent service in the midst of an uncertain market.
