The Raw Water Trend Could Be Bad for You

raw waterIs the Raw Water Trend Bad for You?

With the new year, we undoubtedly will expect new trends that come and go. One of those trends that seem to be picking up fast is the drinking of raw water. Yes, raw water is probably exactly what you think it is. Natural water found in the environment that has not been treated and does not have any of its minerals, ions, particles, bacteria, or parasites removed. Supporters say the water is free from ‘industrial age contaminants’ like synthetic toxins, industrial waste from factories, herbicides, and fertilizers. It seems that the craze may not be as healthy as people thought. Today, I’m going to go over the positives and negatives of drinking your water raw.

Whats in Your Water?

Raw water includes rainwater, groundwater, lake water, and even water from wells. The point is to obtain this water from places that have not filtered it yet. Some supporters of raw water say that it tastes a lot better than filtered water, and with all the minerals still in it, drinking it would be beneficial. On the other side of the spectrum, some health officials have shown concern. By shunning recommended water safety practices, experts warn that raw water may have things in it that are potentially dangerous, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites and more.

Is It Safe to Drink or Not?

So what can raw water do to your body if you drink some of the things still found in it? Without knowing what exact pathogens are in your raw water, chances are every time you drink it you could be at risk. As for companies that are legally selling bottled water in the United States, the FDA would have had to approve of it first, meaning it is considered safe and sanitary. Although some think that raw water that’s distributed is tested for safety, it is still important to know where your water came from, and if possible, test it yourself.

Whether raw water is safe or not is up to you to choose to drink it. Although the promising minerals and natural aura of the drink has an appeal, some worry about the possibility of contamination. On another note, be sure you’re drinking enough water!
