Dating is already hard, but dating during a pandemic is harder. That said, it is possible to maintain your relationship even in the middle of quarantine–in fact, this may be an excellent opportunity to grow together and connect in new ways. If you’re currently living with your current partner, read this article on how to maintain your personal space during the quarantine. But, for the rest of you, here are a few suggestions:
Facetime
We all know you can talk all day long over texts and phone calls, but not physically seeing your significant other may make you feel like your relationship is on hold. Video chatting is going to be the next best thing to being in someone’s presence. If you are not an iPhone user, no need to worry. You can use Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp to make video calls to your significant other.
Go On A “Virtual Date”
Use your go-to video call app to go on a long walk outside with each other, watch a movie, or even get takeout from the same place. I’m not sure about you, but nothing sounds more romantic than a meal, a Facetime call, and the stars of the Texas sky. If that’s not your scene, then call your significant other and use a plugin called “Netflix Party.” This app allows you to watch a movie together when you are, well, not together.
Talk Every Day
The longer you’ve been dating, the more important it is to keep up with communication, and that means talking every day. This one is more subjective to your situation and how long you’ve been dating. For example, talking every day is not as important for new couples, but it can definitely help you get to know your partner better. It can even help move things along. But you don’t want to come off too clingy, so find that special middle ground!
These are just some of my suggestions for maintaining a healthy, long-lasting relationship during these unprecedented times. Remember to stay safe, and healthy!
