According to a survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation, an estimated 12,440,670 jobs were in the healthcare industry. The healthcare jobs can be broken down into 5 groups: hospitals, offices of health practitioners, nursing and residential care facilities, home healthcare services, and outpatient, laboratory, and other ambulatory care services. Notably, in 2004, a growth could be seen in healthcare related jobs/services. Where does that leave us today? Healthcare makes up over 10% of our total job market in the United States. As a matter of fact, in December of 2016, it was discovered that about $3.2 trillion dollars are used on healthcare.
The Future of Healthcare Jobs
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects within the next 10 years, five of the top 10 jobs predicted to the “fastest growing” will be in healthcare. By 2025, a quarter of the workforce will be over 55. That means the workforce will have a need for better healthcare coverage. In addition, growing public support for healthcare creates a demand that will not deter. Before 2025, health spending has seen an increase of 5.8 percent each year, according to CMS. With everyone needing health insurance, a variety of plans will be sold. Whether those are skinny plans or something that offers total coverage, everyone will have the option for insurance.
